Auckland may be our home base, but it's not the only place to get your Atomic coffee fix. If you're traveling around the country this holiday season, here are a few places to head to for a delicious brew.
NORTH OF AUCKLAND
You don't have to travel far away from Auckland to get into the holiday vibe. Even if you're staying put in the city, there are plenty of day trips within an hour's drive.
The Sculptureum and its restaurant Rothko in Matakana promise relaxing strolls in the sculpture gardens and art all around, thanks to six galleries.
If you're driving through on your way further up, Pete and Mary's in Warkworth is the perfect pit stop.
COROMANDEL PENINSULA
Whangamata is a pretty popular spot in the summer, and if that's your place of choice, we recommend saying hi to Dennis and his team at Whanga Bar or grab your morning coffee at Blackies before heading to the beach.
Those hitting popular spot Hot Water Beach can sip on an Atomic brew at beachfront eatery Hotties.
If you're more cottagecore than tourist attraction, Colenso Country Cafe in Whenuakite is the spot for home-baked goods, cute farm animals and general countryside serenity.
WAIKATO / BAY OF PLENTY
Hamilton is a pretty much on the road to anywhere south of Auckland, and it makes for the perfect breakfast stop on long drives. Visit the team at Hayes Common for a delicious breakfast or grab homemade cabinet treats at the aptly named The Sconery.
Those heading to Rotorua should definitly try Eastwood's woodfired pizzas. The eatery looks impressive, located in the Scion research center, at the feet of the Whakarewarewa Forest.
Taupo bound, grab the best combo ever - doughnut and coffee - from The Doughnut Box.
GISBORNE / WELLINGTON
The Workshop in Gisborne is a small haven in the East Cape ruggedness and heat. Amy provides the yarns, Josie the amazing cakes and treats, and the shop is full of homewares you can sip your way through.
If you're in Wellington and want to soak your toes in some refreshing sea water, we recommend grabbing a healthy cabinet item from local community hub Coolsville Cartel in Hataitai (they have plenty of dairy, sugar and gluten free options) before heading to Evan's Bay for a dip.
