In the heavily regulated Ethiopian market, coffee produced by the Guji Oromo people has until 2015 been sold under the 'Sidamo' moniker. Gaining recognition as a designated growing region from the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange (ECX) allowed the Guji to name, market and sell their own coffee, offering distinction in both flavour and quality. This independence has seen the emergence of specialty micro-lots from the region, encouraged by the potential rewards.
A fine example of the quality coming out of the region is our coffee of the month, the Guji Kayon - a clean and particularly even naturally processed coffee from the Shakiso area to the south. Rich with ripe fruit flavours, malt, spice and sweet lime acidity, the meticulous processing offers up a sweet, balanced cup.
